The Studio Process team spent the day at Fire Station 2 capturing the story of retired firefighter, Garland, and his service dog, Smitty. We can't think of a better medium than video to share their unique bond that has only grown stronger over their last two years together. IOWA Service Dogs is dedicated to helping first responders and veterans who have served their country and community reintegrate into civilian life by training service dogs at no charge. Volunteer Guardians raise and train each dog from puppyhood until matched with their warrior. This impactful video story was premiered at the IOWA Service Dog "Paws for a Cause" event on Veteran's Day, November 11th. Check out the video and our behind-the-scenes video below.
Studio Process: on set with Iowa Service Dogs
Here's a peek behind-the-scenes on our recent shoot with IOWA Service Dogs. We love working on location and this shoot proved no different.
After we wrapped, we began the post-production process. We hosted the director of IOWA Service Dogs in our edit suite for a collaborative "live editorial session." An in-person editorial session is a part of our Studio Process that we strongly encourage our partnering clients to opt into when schedule and investment budget provide the opportunity. We find that the efficiencies of working in the same room together through the first round of revisions earns back time and dollars down the road. We always start each project by listening and learning about your brand, but it remains that you are the true subject matter expert that knows the nuances that encapsulate the meaning of your organization. Having an instantaneous back-and-forth discussion enables us to make changes on the fly that lean into these nuances. By this point an editor is deeply familiar with the footage, so we'll share what other options we might have within the raw footage. We can audition in a new music track and show off other bits and pieces that didn't quite make the first cut.
All in all, a collaborative editorial session means we're putting more time into the actual editorial itself and we're growing a deeper relationship rapport with you and your brand. All in all, a collaborative editorial session means we're putting more time into the actual editorial itself and we're growing a deeper relationship rapport with you and your brand while doing so. We're spending less time exporting and uploading files for you to view online. We're keeping momentum alive because we're not waiting on feedback. Plus, we're saving you time too, because we understand that sometimes finding accurate words to provide specific revision notes for video feels like learning to speak a whole new language. But if you still need convincing that your next project (and you) will benefit from an in-house editorial session with the Studio Process team, we'll just leave this here: we allllways have lots of bubbly water and snacks on-hand and we like to share.
